Toronto Music Scene News

NORTH-ERN SOUL
Toronto live electronic music trio North (formerly Anorak) are set to release a 10” EP on Berlin-based indie/electronica label Mira Records, who have also released a record by I Am Robot And Proud. Shared Silence of North will be unleashed with a show at Holy Joe’s on Feb. 7, alongside T.O.-based labelmate I Am Robot and Quasimojo, plus DJ Dynaflex. North member Brad Crowe has also embarked on a collaboration with Wavelength’s Jonny Dovercourt under the name The Frankfurt School, and the duo have contributed a track to the Chicago-based online music series Muted Tones, which can be heard at www.tenseforms.com/mutedtones.

MELLONOVA SEEKS DRUMMER
Mellonova describe themselves as “a space/post/fraggle rock band with a penchant for high drama.” They are looking for someone to fill their vacant drum stool, and describe this hypothetical individual as “someone who can bring a whole lot of energy to the Nova parts and something subtle to the Mello parts.” Check out www.mellonova.com, and contact hapaul@mellonova.com or Michael at 416-977-4797.

INTERSTELLAR OVERDRIVE
Toronto’s psychedelic ambient duo Interstellar — featuring Mean Red Spiders member Rob Boak — are going into the studio with the one and only Jeff McMurrich to finish off their second full-length album titled ToSleepToDreamToWake. The follow-up to Late Night Tea will come out this fall. Guest stars on the record include MRS’ Lisa and Adam and the one and only Infinite Systems.

CINCINNATI RISING
Cincinnati Records is a new Hamilton-based indie label committing to releasing local music. Tuesday, February 18 is the release date for Cincinnati’s first two releases, Wax Mannequin’s And Gun and The Ride Theory’s self-titled debut. Both bands perform on that night at the Horseshoe for a free Nu Music Nite — this just after The Ride Theory’s coup of filling in for Sub Pop’s The Catheters after they cancelled their ‘Shoe show. www.waxmannequin.com, www.theridetheory.tripod.com.
