Music Scene News
NOT-SO-OK COMPUTER
Thomas and the Evil Computer, the frenetic-pop project of unabashed Rob
Crow/Heavy Vegetable/Pinback fanatic Jan Rudy, has a new CD available
for public interface, entitled La gendarmie royale, on Browntown Records.
The release party happens Tuesday Oct. 1 at Holy Joe's, with guests Cougar
Melons, and a free piece of cake for every CD purchased -- while quantities
last, of course.
NOT-SO-RUSTY CAGE
The Music Gallery
celebrates what would have been the 90th birthday of 20th century classical
giant and founder of "indeterminacy" John Cage with three concerts. On
Oct. 24, American experimental composer Jim Tenney plays Cage; Oct. 26,
solo pianist Stephen Clarke tackles works by Cage, Tenney and Toronto's
Martin Arnold; and Oct. 27, Montreal violinist Malcolm Goldstein leads
quartet performances of Cage, Satie, T.O.'s Udo Kasemets and his own work.
The M.G. is located in St. George-the-Martyr Church in Grange Park, north
of Queen and John.
SPIDERS ON THE MOVE
Mean
Red Spiders will be out on the road this month in advance of the release
of their third CD for teenage USA, Still Life Fast Moving (reviewed on
page 15). After playing T.O.'s Tequila Lounge Friday Oct. 4 with murder
balladeer Johnny Dowd and Deep Dark United, they hit the Maritime rock
circuit Oct. 24-29. The official release party for Still Life Fast Moving
happens Nov. 16 at the Riv.
MO' BANDS ON TOUR
Do
Make Say Think head all the way out west for a North American tour
with Constellation labelmates Fly Pan Am, starting Oct. 1 and lasting
all month. They return home for a show at Lee's Palace Nov. 3. And The
Creeping Nobodies are out on the road as you read this, alongside
Kosher Rock
labelmates Deep Dark United and Blackeyes for various dates on the East
