NEW WAYNE O'S... BEAUTY!
Our favourite psychedelic hosers Wayne Omaha celebrate the release of
their great new disc Can The Maps. Go For The Beauty. with a big show
at The Great Hall at Queen and Dovercourt. The location of the legendary
Sonic Youth "riot" a decade ago, the luxuriant space hasn't been used
for rock shows much of late, so it should be a special evening. Sticky
Rice and Mia Sheard are the lucky openers. The Wayne O's follow up that
with their Wavelength gig #2 on Dec. 10.
IT'S PATRICK DIVERSIFIES!
It's Patrick members are doing a KISS/Wu-Tang sort of thing and pursuing
solo careers while still focussing on the band. Guitarist Rudy Rempel
has just released his solo record Knowing Through The Motions, on which
both Steve Keeping (drums) Michelle Breslin (guitar/vox) are featured.
Steve is currently finishing up his recordings under the name Moe Kellogg,
to which Michelle has been contributing. Meanwhile, Michelle is prepping
songs for the next It's P record. You can hear what they've been up to
when they make their second Wavelength appearance Nov. 26.
SPIDERS IN THE STATES!
Mean Red Spiders are celebrating their college chart success (and glowing
review in CMJ) by spending most of November on the road in the U.S.A.
The metallic blue Spidermobile will be traveling south to Florida then
back up the coast.
WEDNESDAY WARRIORS!
A new night to showcase independent music has started up in T.O. Occurring
weekly on Wednesdays at Graffiti's in Kensington Market, the yet-to-be-named
series (with a copacetic mindset to Wavelength) is the brainchild of Stephen
Dohnberg of the bands White Star Line and Spacecraft 7 and on-line zine
Burning Ink (www.burningink.com).
The kickoff night offers Raising the Fawn (featuring John Crossingham
of Thanatopop) and Helicon Blue. Interested bands can contact Steve at
531-2420 or stephen.dohnberg@sympatico.ca.
Spacecraft 7 are incidentally looking for a drummer, and can be reached
via the same contacts.
FANTASTIC! FEST A
SUCCESS!
The three-day Fantastic! Festival in Windsor, Ontario on Oct. 26-28 saw
performances (in front of mostly appreciative crowds) by the likes of
Toronto's Christiana, Kid Sniper, Mean Red Spiders, Parts Unknown, Spacecraft
7 and White Star Line, Ottawa's Kepler and Rhume, Vancouver's Ashley Park,
Montreal's The Dears, Brooklyn's Etherdrag and some great Windsorites
including Full White Drag, The Riverside Ensemble, The Movies and Catastrophe
Team.
